PHM - PROGRESS!

I walked into the kitchen this morning and said to John:

"Take a look at my butt.  Do you see it?  You'd better take a good look because it's disappearing!  I've lost 10 pounds!"

Ok, so my butt is far from disappearing, but 10 pounds is in official weight loss range, not "water weight".  Sadly, when you're 70 (now 60!) pounds overweight, a 10 pound loss doesn't show at all.  It takes 25-30 pounds before anyone notices, and then it's more like "Hey, you look different, did you get new glasses?"

So what have I been doing since my last update?  Well, I joined a gym and have been going three times a week (which doesn't sound like a lot, but it's all I can manage right now), I'm walking for 45 minutes in my neighborhood on the days I don't go to the gym and I've changed my eating to a low glycemic diet.  That, plus non stop, never ending breastfeeding (seriously, Max LOVES to eat).

As much as I'd love to wake up 60 pounds lighter tomorrow, I'm trying to keep the mantra "slow and steady wins the race" in my head.  If I wasn't breastfeeding, I know I'd try going on some crash diet or get some weight loss pills or drink nothing but Slim Fast every day, and I think it's good that nursing is keeping me from doing that.  Breastfeeding Max is forcing me to loose the weight in a healthy way, and hopefully, if I can keep this up and loose it all, I'll be able to create some good habits and keep it off for good.

  1. Yeah! I am proud of you! Slimfast is very stupid, first of all have you read the ingredients? I think it has partially hydrogenated oils…bad for you and weight loss. A better route is eating a serving size of Special K (or something similar) with skim milk. I think it is the same calories, etc. It has fiber and nutrients you need and you feel more full.
Yes, you are doing well because you are losing it slowly and healthy. It isn’t just a temporary fix you have to look at it as this is my life, I want to be healthy. Eating better, fresher foods, not processed or fried, smaller portions, not eating out as often, more water instead of pop or juice, less alcohol, walking at least 5 days a week is how I have been staying healthy. Oh, believe me I am still having naughty stuff listed above, you can not deprive yourself of treats but you can’t indulge on them daily or several times a week. Keep going and you will be healthy! You are already HOT!

  2. That is great! I wish I had the will power but, sadly, at this juncture in my life I dont have any will power what so ever. Not only to loose weight but for anything in my life. I am very indulgent lately.
I am very proud of you though. And I look forward to more progress reports on PHM!

  3. Jamie,
Guess what? I've also lost 10 lbs., but sadly it's not because I've been on a wonderful excercise program, or diet necessarily..or even that I've been able to get off prednisone (cause I haven't) it's because I ended up with the flu (or food poisening) for a whole week. When I came over on Monday, it was the first time in a week that I'd been away from the toilet (OK so I'm being a little graphic) But if you can talk about things like boobs and sex...the toilet is the only real off color thing I can think off...since the things you talk about are not particularly in my lifes work so-to-speak (and sadly enough). But I am so excited for you. I really should go for more walks with the dog and for longer periods (I heard that is how JWD has become so thin).
Heidi did give me the use of her gym pass if you go the same one, maybe we can meet up some time.
Anyway keep up the good work...oh and the videos are so cute. I can't believe that Max is smiling and cooing and that Alex is singing the ABC's. I think it's those Bennett genes again. HA HA
    Later,
    Grammy Diane
